Pudsey Juniors produced another great performance to seal all three points in their last game of the season away against Amaranth.

Amaranth 2
Pudsey Juniors Under 12s 3

Date: 13 Apr 08

Competition: Garforth Junior Football League U-12 division 2

It was a cold wet Sunday morning when Pudsey started this encounter in the knowledge that they had gone six games undefeated in the league. However, in the first half Pudsey did not look like a team in form as they appeared to play half hearted and basically had “a bit of a howler”. Amaranth to their credit played well condensing the play in the Pudsey half and after five minutes they broke the deadlock as one of their strikers was given the chance to power a great shot only to be denied by a save from Gavin Howarth, unfortunately the ball found another Amaranth player whose shot was nearly cleared of the line by Elliott West. Josh Smith and Sam Chip did have chances up front only to shoot straight at the Amaranth keeper who gathered both attempts without much difficulty. Five minutes to go and an Amaranth player yet again found himself on goal chipping home to take the score to 2-0. At this point the Pudsey team could have dropped their shoulders but to their credit they kept playing and in difficult conditions, on a wet pitch, Sam Chip had a shot, after a great run and cross from Elliott West, which slid under the Amaranth keeper to take the score to 2-1 at the half time break.

All the Pudsey support hoped that this was going to be a game of two halves and a game of two halves it was, Pudsey returning to the pitch with a determination to turn around a poor first half performance. Five minutes in Sam Chip found himself through on goal, after latching on to a great through ball, but his strike was saved well yet he managed to pick up the rebound to tap home to bring the scores level. Moments later and another goalmouth scramble found Josh Smith shooting over the bar. Sam Chip then had another run, dancing and weaving his way past the Amaranth midfield and defenders only to be brought down on the edge of the box, the resultant free kick started another goalmouth scramble which only ended when an Amaranth defender franticly cleared. It always looked like Pudsey would take all three points and with only a few minutes to go Sam Chip, who now covered in mud looked like he had been in a right battle, fired a superb shot only to be denied by a brilliant save which then found Bradley Jones who shot home to take the score to 2-3. Pudsey gained the result they deserved from what must be the best second half team performance of the season, leaving all the parents and supporters of a resurgent Pudsey team not wanting the season to end and wondering what on earth they will now do on a Sunday morning. This result was the seventh undefeated, which has seen Pudsey win four, draw three and crucially draw two of the games against the two top teams in the league.

Man of the match: Sam Chippendale, great all round effort and performance.
Squad: Gavin Howarth, Thomas Gormley, Sam Swales, Sean Higgins, Elliott West, Alex Bradley, Josh Greig, Josh Smith, Jake Swain, Bradley Jones, Sam Chippendale, Thomas Baran, Jonathan Beck.

On a crisp and chilly Sunday morning Pudsey Juniors under 12s recorded another victory and went six games undefeated in the league. Having last lost in the league away against Kippax the whole Pudsey team knew they were going to have a tough time of it and once again Kippax proved to be a strong well trained outfit who played some very good football throughout this encounter. Pudsey started on the back foot and it was all Kippax for the first fifteen minutes as they played defence splitting passes and long balls through to their strikers who came close on plenty of occasions and it was through some great goalkeeping from Gavin Howarth that the scores were kept level. Pudsey did have a chance ten minutes in when Sam Chippendale crossed to Alex Bradley who just failed to head the ball home unchallenged at the far post. With twenty minutes on the clock Kippax came close to scoring when they were awarded a free kick which was taken well and just sailed over the bar. But five minutes from half time captain Josh Smith picked up a great through ball from Alex Bradley and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the post to give Pudsey a 1-0 lead at the break.

Pudsey returned to the field and had a dream start to the second half. Substitute Thomas Baran found himself on goal, just shooting wide and from the resultant goal kick the ball was picked up again by the Pudsey midfield who pressed home another attack. Pudsey were awarded a corner and Will Sharp, as ever, floated the ball right into the mix of things, Josh Greig pounced and headed home to extended the Pudsey lead to 2-0 with only one minute on the clock. Eight minutes in Thomas Baran once again found himself through on goal only to shoot just wide, but two minutes later the Kippax number ten latched on to a great defence splitting pass, firing home to take the score to 2-1. The last twenty minutes saw Pudsey defending well with Sam Chippendale put into a more defensive role and the whole team working hard for a well deserved victory against a very good Kippax team. Next Sunday the team travels away to Amaranth for the last game of the season and hopefully to continue with this right vein of form at the end of a highly entertaining season.

Man of the match: Josh Smith great goal and great captain’s performance.

Bright sunshine on a lovely spring day saw Pudsey Juniors under 12s continue their great run of form going undefeated in five league games. Both teams started quietly and rarely tested each other with the Pudsey defence holding their line well. But fifteen minutes in, this encounter sprang to life as the Pudsey attack managed to notch the first goal coming from a goal kick from Sean Higgins which found the ever present Jake Swain who made a great cross to the feet of Alex Bradley who shot powerfully to bulge the back of the Beeston net. Moments later after two strong tackles in the Pudsey penalty area the referee had no hesitation in awarding Beeston a penalty which the resultant kick found the bottom corner of the goal well beyond the reach of the Pudsey keeper Gavin Howarth to level the scores to 1-1. This goal gave the Beeston team added hope and they played some of their best football of the game. Yet Pudsey did manage further attacks in the first half as Josh Greig linked well with Alex Bradley who crossed first to give Josh Smith a chance in front of the goal only to be denied by the strong Beeston keeper and Bradley Jones also nearly beat the keeper after yet another great cross from the in form Alex Bradley.

Second half and Beeston returned to the field with added vigour and with a hope of gaining something from this game, however, Pudsey stepped up their work rate after an inspired half time talk from the manager. Five minutes in Sam Swales went down after a heavy clash with one of the Beeston strikers and from the resultant kick Jake Swain managed a shot which tested the keeper. Moments later Pudsey were awarded a free kick which the ever reliable Sean Higgins managed to find the feet of Will Sharp who scored a great goal hitting a floating ball which dropped into the back of the net to give Pudsey the lead. Next to go down after a heavy tackle was Josh Greig and the free kick once again found Will Sharp who inspired by his first strike once again struck a similar ball which just bounced of the top of the Beeston cross bar. The final goal of the game came after yet another fantastic cross from Alex Bradley which a Beeston defender had no choice but to try and clear, as he was under pressure from Josh Smith, but his clearance found the back of his own net to give Pudsey a 3-1 lead and all three points. The Pudsey manager praised the team for a great all round team performance, hard work throughout and the defence working well together.

Man of the match: Alex Bradley great goal and great all round performance.

Pudsey Juniors Under 12s end Whitkirk’s 100% winning run with hard fought draw

Pudsey Juniors U 12s 2
Whitkirk Wanderers 2
Date: 16 Mar 08
Competition: Garforth Junior Football League U-12 division 2

Pudsey played host to Whitkirk, who sat at the top of the table having won all of their previous twelve league games. Pudsey started slowly but they managed to break the deadlock on 8 minutes when Will Sharp played a perfectly weighted through ball for Sam Chippendale to run on to from the right. Sam powered through and slotted the ball past the Whitkirk keeper to give Pudsey the lead.

Whitkirk then took control of the midfield and had more possession but it was Pudsey who were denied the opportunity to extend their lead when the referee missed a blatant handball in the Whitkirk area on 16 minutes. The ball was cleared and within a minute Whitkirk were level. They broke down the left and when the ball was knocked into the Pudsey 6-yard area an attempted clearance bounced back off another player and ended up in the back of the net. Before the disappointment of conceding the equaliser had sunk in Pudsey found themselves 2-1 down. A direct free kick was given to Whitkirk wide on the Pudsey right and it was swung high into the top corner of the Pudsey goal. For the next few minutes Pudsey were under pressure as Whitkirk kept coming forward but the defence held firm.

On 24 minutes Sam Chippendale popped up on the left, shook off two defenders and forced his way into the area. He smacked the ball past the keeper only to see it come back off the bar and land safely for Whitkirk. Half-time 1-2

The second half started with Pudsey showing more determination as they won a corner on the right in the first minute. Will Sharp floated the ball towards the far post and Josh Smith headed down past the keeper and a defender on the line to bring it level at 2-2. Five minutes later Gavin Haworth made a good save down to his left and managed to hold onto the ball as the attackers closed in.

Pudsey improved on their first half performance as everyone battled away with the opposition. Josh Greig, Josh Smith and Sam Chippendale all received treatment as both sides tackled hard and, without any substitutes, Pudsey played a quarter of the game with only 10 men. As the game wore on Whitkirk knocked more and more long balls deep into the Pudsey half. Under pressure from the wind and oncoming forwards Gavin Haworth came off his line time after time to faultlessly collect the ball. The full time whistle went and Pudsey celebrated becoming the first team to take a point from the league leaders. All credit to the whole team for grinding out another great result.

Man of the match was awarded to Gavin Howarth in goal for excellent handling and sweeping up behind the defence.

A great team performance saw Pudsey Juniors gain three points from local rivals Stanningley Albion.

Date: 9 Mar 08

Competition: Garforth Junior Football League U-12 division 2

On a difficult rain sodden pitch both teams started this Garforth League Division 2 encounter tentatively each testing one another and Stanningley got the first break as their number seven found himself in front of goal only to hit his shot well over the bar. Shortly after it was Pudsey’s turn to show their skill as Sam Chippendale made a great defence splitting pass through to Josh Smith who struck the ball well only to see it hit the bar and to bounce back to the feet of Josh Greig who then just shot wide. What followed was some of the best football of the game as Pudsey showed their class and strength as the Stanningley defence found it difficult to cope with the pace of the Pudsey midfield. But, Sean Higgins defended well as a Stanningley player broke through and he showed his pace in tracking back to make a great tackle and then launch the ball forward. With minutes to the break Pudsey played some great passing football with Sam Swales passing out of defence to the industrious Josh Greig who linked well with Jake Swain , Josh Smith and Thomas Baran who then made a perfect pass to the feet of Sam Chippendale whose resultant strike once again went just wide.

Playing up hill on a difficult pitch, on paper was always going to be in favour of the home side and shortly after the break Stanningley were awarded the first corner of the match but Gavin Howarth made a fantastic reaction save in the Pudsey goal to deny Stanningley the opener. The ball then found Sam Chippendale who once again showed his skill and pace as he took on the Stanningley defence with a great individual run only to shoot just wide. Eight minutes in and Will Sharp went down heavily which saw the return of captain Josh Smith who moments later was involved in a goal mouth scramble with Josh Greig, but neither could find the back of the net. Then Sam Chippendale found himself again through on goal only to shoot agonisingly wide. As the Pudsey supporters began to think that this encounter was going to end goal less Sam Swales headed out of defence to the feet of Sam Chippendale who as ever ran passed the Stanningley midfield and defence to then strike, finally scoring to send the rest of the players and supporters delirious. With minutes left on the clock Pudsey were awarded a free kick, up stepped in form Sean Higgins who struck the ball right into the danger area and the resulting goal mouth scramble ended as Josh Greig found the back of the net to make the score 2-0 and to give Pudsey all three well deserved points.

Man of the match: Sean Higgins great all round performance.

In appalling wind swept conditions, with a severe cross wind plus missing key players, on paper this was always going to be a difficult encounter for Pudsey playing against promotion chasing joint top team Woodkirk. However, Pudsey played one of their best battling performances of the season led by the inspirational Josh Greig. Solid in defence, Thomas Gormley, Sam Swales, Sean Higgins plus Elliott West with Gavin Howarth in goal all played well and Woodkirk rarely threatened. With just eight minutes on the clock Pudsey were awarded a corner, up stepped Sean Higgins and wind assisted he dropped the ball into a perfect position for Jake Swain, who making his debut for Pudsey, finished well through a crowd of players. Now with the wind in their sails Pudsey played some of their best football and with ten minutes to the break the best moment of the match came. Josh Greig intercepted a pass inside the Pudsey half, showing great pace and skill he passed player after player until he reached the edge of the Woodkirk box when he lined himself up to unleash a superb shot to score what must be contender for goal of the season. Sam Chippendale continued to threaten down the right and was heavily tackled, limping off, with the rest of the Pudsey team, 2-0 up after the referee indicated the end of the half.

The players earned well deserved praise from the Pudsey coaching staff for a superb first half performance but Woodkirk were always going to come back. For long periods Pudsey held well as a frustrated Woodkirk attack could not break the defence, Jonathan Beck battling well just in front of the Pudsey line, Thomas Baran playing some of his best football of the season worked well creating chances for Alex Bradley and Sam Chippendale to take this encounter beyond Woodkirk. But ten minutes into the second half Woodkirk got the break they were after as their number 15 unleashed an unstoppable shot to take the score to 2-1. The game now entered a different phase but Pudsey never gave in, Sam Chippendale, Jake Swain with Alex Bradley up front all tried to gain the advantage and Alex Bradley rode a fearsome two-footed tackle, which somehow the referee failed to spot. Adding five minutes extra time and with only seconds left on the clock Woodkirk were awarded a corner which was taken well and a Woodkirk player reached the ball at the far post to head home from close range to give them a valuable point but also to rob Pudsey of the full spoils of this match. The referee indicated the end of the game and the Pudsey squad had shown how much they have progressed since losing 5-1 to Woodkirk earlier in the season.

Man of the match: Josh Greig for his excellent captains performance, his efforts throughout and his fantastic individual goal.
Squad: Gavin Howarth, Thomas Gormley, Sam Swales, Sean Higgins, Elliott West, Alex Bradley, Josh Greig, Thomas Baran, Jonathan Beck, Sam Chippendale, Jake Swain

Pudsey Juniors Under 12s gained another league point on a soaking Sunday morning.

Pudsey Juniors U 12s 4
Colton Juniors 4

Date: 24 Feb 08

Competition: Garforth Junior Football League U-12 division 2

Just prior to the start of this mid table clash, the players, parents and supporters of both teams were awarded with a soaking as the skies opened. However, this did not dampen the spirits of the Pudsey team as they started this encounter at pace, scoring what must be one of the fastest goals of the season, for any team in the league, as Josh Smith finished well after a fantastic through ball from Thomas Gormley to make the score 1-0. Pudsey continued to play well with Sam Chippendale and Will Sharp starting to dominate and cause the Colton midfield and defence all sorts of problems. But half way through the first half Colton were awarded the first of many corner kicks, Pudsey failed to clear and Colton found the back of the net via the hand of Elliott West to make the score 1-1. More excitement followed as the Colton team started to play some good passing football but Pudsey were rewarded late into the first half as Sam Chippendale scored a superb goal from outside the right hand side of the box to take the score to 2-1 at half time.

Having the usual passionate half time talk from the Pudsey manager and coach, who warned of the dangers of conceding corners, the teams returned to the field, both starting brightly as the rain stopped and the sun made a brief appearance. After only a few minutes from the restart and as warned, Colton were awarded a corner kick which again Pudsey failed to clear, the resulting kick ending up in the back of the Pudsey net to take the scores to 2-2. Not to be outdone Pudsey midfielder Will Sharp had a chance to make amends and he floated in a perfect corner, to the front post, which a Colton defender headed in after pressure from the Pudsey centre back Sam Swales to yet again give Pudsey the lead. Pudsey now had the initiative and after a good through ball from substitute Bradley Jones, Sam Chippendale was strongly tackled in the Colton box, but with calls from the Pudsey players and supporters alike the referee did not award what could have been a deciding penalty kick. From this moment the initiative shifted to the Colton team who scored two quick goals, one of which was a well taken shot followed by another goal mouth scramble and a defensive mistake to take the score to 3-4 in favour of the away team. With only minutes left on the clock, Will Sharp stepped up to take yet another corner kick, which swerved and floated beyond the reach of the Colton keeper to award Pudsey with a well deserved point in this very exciting and entertaining encounter.

Man of the match: Will Sharp for his hand in creating many chances and two of the Pudsey goals.

Squad: Gavin Howarth, Thomas Gormley, Sam Swales, Sean Higgins, Elliott West, Alex Bradley, Will Sharp, Josh Greig, Thomas Baran, Jonathan Beck, Sam Chippendale, Josh Smith

What could have been three league wins in a row was spoilt by a determined and resilient Kippax team.

Pudsey Juniors under 12s could have recorded their third league victory in a row until they came across a determined and well organised Kippax team, the match played out on a cold and damp Kippax pitch.

Pudsey nearly had a dream start as Sam Chippendale and Josh Smith opened up the Kippax defence twenty seconds from the start of this encounter, causing the Kippax keeper and defenders to scramble the ball away from their goal line. But with the wind in their favour, Kippax started to dominate and the Pudsey defence soon found out that they would have their work cut out throughout this game. Ten minutes in Kippax were awarded a free kick close to the left hand touch line just outside the box, Pudsey failed to make an effective wall and the well taken free kick, straight into the heart of the Pudsey six yard box, hit the boot of Sean Higgins and the back of the net. Five minutes later one of the Kippax players found himself unmarked, just inside the Pudsey half and he hit the ball which looped, floated and dropped just under the bar giving the Pudsey keeper, Gavin Howarth, no chance of making a save, taking the score to 2-0. Another captains goal gave Pudsey some hope as Josh Smith made the score 2-1 as he slotted home after a well taken throw in from Will Sharp. Yet another moment of miss fortune hit the Pudsey defence as a well taken cross found the head of Elliott West and then the back of the Pudsey net to take the score to 3-1 in favour of the home side.

After a rousing talk from Martin, the Pudsey manager, the team returned to the field with a look of determination on their faces, but the worst happened as Kippax score once more virtually sealing this encounter only four minutes after the restart. Pudsey tried in vain to get back into this game and with only a few minutes left on the clock Kippax once again pounced and scored, making it 5-1. Sam Chippendale grabbed a late consolation goal taking the ball from the Kippax keeper and coolly slotting home from two yards to take the score to 5-2, however, this goal came far too late and Pudsey were left thinking how different things could have been if they had scored in the first few moments of this disappointing game.

Man of the match: Awarded to Thomas Gormley for his determination, effort and passion to win.

Pudsey Juniors under 12s recorded their fourth win of the season on a windy and blustery Crawshaw pitch, the final score reflecting the strong performance put in by the home side.

The first quarter of the game was dominated by Pudsey who relentlessly attacked the Tingley defence with Sam Chippendale, Josh Greig, Alex Bradley and Will Sharp announcing their presence from the off. Only four minutes into this encounter saw the first goal as Jonny Beck pounced on a corner kick from Will Sharp. Seven minutes in Will Sharp opened his account after a great move from defence to attack as Sam Swales passed through to Chippy who found the industrious Sharp with a perfectly weighted pass. Moments later Pudsey were awarded a penalty after Chippy was tripped in the box and Josh Smith came close to making it three as his penalty kick rebounded of the bottom of the post. Will Sharp then took his tally to two as he shot from just outside the box and the Tingley keeper fumbled the ball across the line. Tingley never gave in and during the last part of the first half they put together more attacks but never really troubled Gavin Howarth in the Pudsey goal, with Elliott West, Sean Higgins, Sam Swales and Thomas Gormley in defence.

After a half time talk from the manager plus the introduction of the hard-working Thomas Baran, the Pudsey team returned to the field with a spring in their tail and once again began to dominate this game. Soon striker Josh Smiths patience was rewarded with a well taken goal after yet another perfectly weight through ball from Chippy. Pudsey continued to attack and twenty minutes into the half the ball found Sam Swales unmarked on the edge of the box and he powered home a superb volley to score his first goal of the season. Five minutes later Josh Smith scored his second goal of the day from yet another great corner from Will Sharp. Finally Josh Greig, also scoring his first goal of the season, fired home a well-deserved individual effort to make the score 7-0. The referee indicated the end of this entertaining encounter and all the supporters and coaching staff alike heaped praise on a true team performance and a fantastic result for Pudsey Juniors Under 12s.

Pudsey Juniors U 12s 1
Vision U12s 1
(Vision won 1-2 after extra time)

Date: 13 Jan 08

Competition: Garforth League Supplementary Cup 1st Round

Pudsey Juniors under 12s welcomed third division Vision to a blustery and damp Crawshaw school pitch on what turned out to be an enormously entertaining and very exciting morning of junior cup football.

The first half saw Pudsey play some of their best football all season and for long periods Vision could not get out of their half. It was not long until the pressure paid off and Pudsey were rewarded with a goal after 10 minutes when Sam Chippendale headed home a well taken corner from Will Sharpe. The rest of the half continued in the same vain with several chances created, all that was missing was the finish at the end of some good moves. Pudsey nearly made it two after a ball was cleared off the line which all the Pudsey players and supporters alike claimed had gone over.

Vision were always going to come back and in the second half with the wind in their favour they started to create more chances. Gavin Howarth in the Pudsey goal with Thomas Gormley, Sam Swales, Sean Higgins and Elliott West in defence, soon realised they would have their work cut out. However, Pudsey managed to maintain the pressure but it was only after a mistake by the Pudsey defence in failing to clear a ball in the six yard box that a Vision player was given the opportunity to slot home an easy chance at the back post to level the score. Vision now played with added vigour, relentlessly attacking the Pudsey goal and it was a nervous twenty minutes before the referee blew for full time to take this nail biting clash into extra time.

Two minutes into the first half of extra time Vision where awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and the resultant kick started a goal mouth scramble which ended when the ball somehow crossed the line to give Vision the lead. Pudsey never gave in but relentless effort and determination did not create that all important equaliser and after eighty minutes of hard work and some fantastic football Pudsey Juniors Under 12s crashed out of the cup.

Man of the match was awarded to Jonathan Beck for his overall efforts in midfield.
